Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about Mu Sigma Lambda, membership, and what we offer to students passionate about the sports industry.

1
Who We Are

Since our founding at UNC Chapel Hill in 2023, Mu Sigma Lambda has operated as a professional fraternity open to everyone. We're united by a shared focus on the sports industry — every chapter role and opportunity is open to any member.

No — we intentionally skip the housing model, since it isn't part of how we build community. Instead, each of our collegiate chapters runs a regular calendar of professional development events, socials, and recruitment activities that create that same sense of identity without the overhead of a physical house.

Each chapter is led by its own executive board — President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Club Relations, and Marketing Chair — elected from the chapter's membership. They handle everything from recruitment and initiation to events and chapter finances, with support from the national office.

Joining & Membership

Start on our homepage and connect with your school's chapter directly. If your school doesn't have a chapter yet, reach out to nationaloffice@musigmalambda.org about starting one.

Yes — expansion is how we've grown from a single founding chapter in 2023 to a national presence across dozens of states. Reach out through our Chapter Contact page with your school's information, and our national team will walk you through the next steps.

Yes. We're a professional fraternity focused on the sports industry, not a social organization, so dual membership is welcomed. Plenty of our members are also active in social Greek life or other professional organizations alongside Mu Sigma Lambda.

Yes — members pay a one-time initiation fee when they join, plus recurring semester dues afterward. Dues fund chapter operations, national programming, and events; your chapter's e-board can give you the current amounts.

Nothing — membership in Mu Sigma Lambda is for life. Graduating members transition into our alumni network, where many stay involved through the Alumni Advisory Program, mentoring current members, attending national events, and stepping into leadership roles nationally.

3
Chapter Life

Each chapter runs its own recruitment cycle every semester — a series of recruitment events building toward a set initiation date, all tracked against a timeline the chapter sets at the start of the term. Exact dates vary by school, so check with your local chapter for what's coming up.

Beyond chapter-level socials and recruitment events, we run national networking events, workshops, and speaker series that bring members together from chapters across the country.

Absolutely not. Hazing has no place in any of our chapters, full stop. We require a safe, welcoming environment as a non-negotiable part of running a chapter.

4
Career & Beyond

We can't promise a job, but we stack the odds in your favor: internship and full-time opportunities from both Mu Sigma Lambda's own network and partner organizations, mentorship through the Alumni Advisory Program, and access to alumni working across the sports industry.
